TANNER ASMUSSEN | 3rd YEAR | ECONOMICS & FOREIGN AFFAIRS
Hey what's up! I'm Tanner Asmussen, a third year majoring in Economics and Foreign Affairs. My last two years I was a part of the Arts and Enrichment Committee before moving up to its director. When I'm not in the PAC looking at fun crafts and Bob Ross videos, you can usually find me in the gym trying to at least stay semi-in shape, searching Charlottesville for the best coffee place, on stage belting a showtune, or really anywhere there's a dog! My favorite event by far is our annual Bears event, because who doesn't need more stuffed animals in their life? I'm super excited for another AWESOME year with tons of new events in store!
ARTS & ENRICHMENT COMMITTEE
Our committee, Arts & Enrichment, is responsible for providing fun and engaging arts-related programming to the UVa and greater Charlottesville community. Our goal is to use to power of arts, in each and every one of its forms, to foster relationships and challenge people's thinking. As director, I aim to use our programming to enrich the student, faculty, and community experience at the University.
WHAT DOES UPC MEAN TO YOU?
UPC, for me, serves not only the UVA community, but further the members themselves. In providing unique and creative events for students to engage in, UPC likewise allows students the unique opportunity to develop a wide array of personal, professional, and leadership skills all while creating events they are passionate about.
IF YOU COULD LISTEN TO ONE SONG FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
"Here I Am," the anthem of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, by Bryan Adams, because it's all about seizing each day like it's the first and not letting anything get in the way of you and your goals, while at the same time expressing the empathetic and encouraging attitude of synergistic success I strive to exhibit.
FAVORITE DISNEY MOVIE?
My favorite Disney movie(s) are hands down the High School Musical Trilogy. I relate very much to Troy Bolton (minus the beautiful hair and incredible dance moves), with similar attitudes in regards to both following your heart as well as passion, and not being afraid to chase your dreams, no matter what risks you must take and compromises you make. And also they’re just objectively awesome movies!
